Review of White Rock Christian School Library Website

White Rock Christian School Library website is extremely organized and has lots of information about the library. It has a list of the upcoming events that will take place in the library. One example is the Grade 4&5 reading link challenge. They have a library catalogue that allows you to search the library catalogue from home and discover research links on their own new home page. If you struggle with homework free online help from real tutors is available through their public libraries. They have a section of books that are free of use for parents, which is unique because not many school libraries have books for parents. How ever the White Rock Christian School Library website is not as detailed as the Elgin Park Library website. Elgin Park's website has interesting video trailers that I have not yet seen on any other school library websites. It also shows how we arrange the books at Elgin; we use the Dewey Decimal system.

Robert Munsch Biography

Robert Munsch was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Fordham University in 1969 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and from Boston University in 1971 with a Master of Arts degree in anthropology.
He studied to become a Jesuit priest, but decided he would rather work with children after jobs at orphanages and daycare centers. In 1973, he received a Master of Education in Child Studies from Tufts University. In 1975 he moved to Canada to work at the preschool at the University of Guelph in GuelphOntario. He also taught in the Department of Family Studies at the University of Guelph as a lecturer and as an assistant professor. In Guelph he was encouraged to publish the many stories he made up for the children he worked with. Munsch is known for his manic storytelling methods, with exaggerated expressions and acted voices. He makes up his stories in front of audiences and refines them through repeated tellings. He has said "It takes 200 tellings for a story to get good."His stories do not have a recurring single character, instead the characters are based on the children to whom he first told the story, including his own children. He often performs at children's festivals and appears at elementary schools, sometimes unannounced. He is a bestselling author in both the United States and Canada, and has sold over 30 million books, more than any other Canadian author. Munsch has written over 50 books, and has written several unpublished stories. Some of his books were adapted into the cartoon series "Bunch of Munsch".In 1999 Munsch was made a Member of the Order of Canada. On June 16, 2009, it was announced that Munsch would receive a star on Canada's Walk of Fame in Toronto. The induction ceremony was held on September 12, 2009.

Journal Topic #1

"I just write what I wanted to write. I write what amuses me. It's totally for myself"
~ J.K. Rowling

J.K. Rowling is a popular author who lives in England. As a child J.k. Rowling would often write fantasy stories, which she would usually read to her sister and had aspired to be an author ever since then. She has written the Harry Potter series and has become one of the most well known authors in the world. The Harry Potter books have gained worldwide attention and sold more than 400 million copies. I chose this quote because I respected how she wrote only for herself and didn't let the pressures of others around her dictate what she wrote. The quote shows that she wasn't trying to impress anyone and didnt care what other people thought, she was confident that if she stuck to writing what she wanted to that she would be successful in the end. It also proves that the best literature pieces are those that are written from the writer's own feelings and not something that is fabricated in hopes of entertaining the reader. J.K. Rowling wasn't writing to impress the reader, she was writing to impress herself and by sticking to that moto she became very successful. I felt what Rolwing stated in her quote is something we should all live by, don't do things in life because you feel the need to impress someone, whatever you do should be for yourself and no one but yourself and its clear thats what J.K. Rowling does when she writes.
